Park

One of our favorite family activities to do (when its not too hot) is to walk down to the local park. When we first moved to St. Louis, Jacob and I always talked about pushing our children on the swings at this park. We love that we are now able to live that dream!!  We try to take Alethea to the park once a week (again depending on the weather) and she LOVES IT! She loves to sing and go down the slides!  Here are some pictures from our various trips to the park.

7 Months!

*I know that you are almost 8 months old now, but between school ending, work starting, and a trip to Michigan we have just been enjoying time together as a family!

Happy 7th Months Alethea!!
The time has come and our darling baby is 7th months old and already standing! Standing is one of your favorite things to do! As soon as you started spending time with the older girls, you are moving all over! You grab my fingers and pull yourself up to a standing positiong; you grab the storage ottoman and stand on that and you love to stand at your leap frog table and play. Not only are you standing, but you have gotten a lot better at moving around on your belly. You have not started crawling yet but are doing a great job scooting to where you want to go. (everywhere but forward). Your personality is showing more then ever now that you are moving and grooving! You are a go with the flow type of baby, but do need your mommy time to cuddle and get away from it all. My favorite time with you is bed time. I love spending so time starring at you, singing, and nursing you to sleep.  I love that we have that cuddle time together, just the 2 of us with no interruptions.  You love to grab my face while we lay next to each other and just stare into my eyes. You also love to play with me hair. Whenever you are fussy I can usually just let you play with me hair and your instantly calm down. You are growing up to be such a big girl and we love you so much!!

Science Center

We finally made our first trip to the science center. Jacob had been wanting to go for a long time to see the Star Trek exhibit that was there. We decided in the fall to wait until Alethea was born so she could experience it with us. We had been waiting and waiting until she got older to go, and got lucky enough to find a Groupon for the exhibit! We were able to get buy 1 get 1 free and had a great time.

The science center is FREE so we spent some time exploring the entire place before heading to the Star Trek exhibit. The St. Louis science center is AWESOME! Anyone who has kids should defiantly go check it out for a day of FREE fun. It is a fun place for all ages, from toddlers to adults! There are lots of different areas to explore and lots of fun things to do. Anyways, back to the Star Trek Exhibit.  I am not a Star Trek fan, and was just going to the exhibit for Jacob, but I ended up enjoying it. They didn't have as much "stuff" as Jacob would have liked, but it was really neat to see different items from the movie. Needless to say, I got an entire lesson on Star Trek movies in about an hour. Crash Course to say the least.  We had a ton of fun at the exhibit. Some of the things they had were: cast scripts from the movies, actual clothing used, telecommunication devices and models of the ships. It was a great time spent as a family. We were unfortunately not able to take pictures due to copyright but have some other pictures from the science center.

The awesome "mouse trap" thing in the main entrance

These were posted all over the Science Center- this was posted especially for my sisters!

And...

And....

the semester is almost over!! Only 2 days of classes left and 2 exams then I will have my hubby home for 3 weeks!!! Yay!! Can you say "time to tackle the to do list"! (oh and apply to some jobs)

Alethea is starting to crawl!! No she is not crawling on her knees but she is defiantly moving. She scoots all around and gets up on her hands and knees and starts rocking. My prediction is she will be crawling constantly by the end of the month. Not sure if I am ready for this yet... Its so nice to just set her down and know she can't move (far), but not anymore

The biggest news.... I have a job!! yay!! This is something that we have been praying for for months! God provided at just the right time (Jacob's job is done for the summer). I am so thrilled that God provided this job for me at just the right time. I will be watching 2 girls 3 or 4 days a week. I will be able to take my sweet Alethea with me, which is a HUGE blessing!! So starting on the 14th, I will be babysitting a 2 year old, 10month old and 7 month old! It will be crazy but so much fun!! I can't wait!!

GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!

Water Play

A few weeks ago I decided that Alethea was finally old enough to do some water play! While I worked at the daycare I got a lot of great activity ideas for infants and now that Alethea is old enough I'm thrilled to start doing some! One of the great ideas is water play! I just put some water into a bucket with a few of her bath toys and let her spalsh around. I am hoping to find some cheap (or free) color tablets to change the water color and some foam soap and other fun bath toys to make it more interesting. Here are some pictures of our fun time playing in the water!

(do you see the little black in the background? Wallace also had fun playing in the water. He kept putting his nose in it and was trying to get her toys... apparently you can do water play for dogs too!)

6 months

Alethea is 6 months old! It doesn't seem like it has been 6 months since our little sweetie was born.

Dear Alethea,

Your are getting so big! I can hardly carry you in your car seat anymore. You are looking more and more like your daddy everyday. You have his eyes, light colored hair and wonderful expressions. You are such an expressive baby! I have learned to know exactly what you want based on your facial expressions, and raising of your eyebrows. Your new tired sign is when you start rubbing your eyes and your right ear. If I am holding you then you start to bury your face into my arm. No one other then mommy has been able to really get you to sleep, but as soon as I sit down to rock you and start singing you fall fast asleep. I love being able to sing and rock you to sleep and love that you know my voice. Your beautiful eyes look up at me as we rock and sing and your head slowly slides down into my arm and your eyes close. Singing you to sleep for naps and bedtimes are one of my favorite parts of our day together. It is a time that we get to spend together, just us, with no interruptions or worries. You are starting to settle into a bedtime routine and going to sleep earlier without waking up. Right now you go to bed around 730-8 and wake up twice to nurse (before 11pm) and then will only wake up once in the earlier morning (around 4am) to nurse again. You are such a happy baby when you wake up in the morning. You are getting such a great nights sleep that I wake up to my beautiful Alethea talking in her crib and looking at my eyes. There isn't a better way to wake up.

You are becomming more attached to your mommy everyday. You are constantly follwoing me around (with your eyes) and are always aware of where I am. You still let strangers hold you, but will be watching me to make sure that it is ok. Although, there are times where you will start crying if I leave the room or you can't see me anymore. I love it! I love that you know who your mommy is and that you want me. It is your way of showing me how much you love and need me. It's Wonderful! Pretty soon your will be crawling and moving all over the place. I love you and can't wait to see what the future holds for you.

First Vacation

Alethea has one of her big "firsts" at the end of March: A Vacation!! Man, was I WORRIED! Jacob and I knew that we wanted to take Alethea to visit my side of the family and to meet her great-grandma, great-pap, and other great aunts and uncles. Since Jacob had a few days off from school and work we decided to make the 10 hour drive to Pennsylvania. As I was planning for this trip, I was really worried that Alethea would not do well in the car for that long in 1 day, (I mean she was only 5 months old, and I can hardly be in the car that long in 1 day) so we decided to only drive 5 hours each day. Which to some people sounds crazy, but it worked out great!

Car Ride!

One our way to Pennsylvania, we stopped in Kentucky to visit my aunt, uncle and cousins. (sorry no pics)It was so great to see them and also to give us all a break from the car. We had so much fun and stayed up way too late, but Alethea did wonderful! The next day we headed back in the car for the rest of our journey. Alethea could make it 4 hrs (stopping at 2hrs) without much whining, but that last house was pretty bad. (very thankful we decided to drive it in  days) We had so much fun visiting my family and Alethea did wonderful! She let everyone hold her and hardly cried at all. She also did great sleeping in a different place (the country), and in her playpen for the first time. I anticipated to not get any sleep but was surprised when Alethea slept great all night! I think it had to do with her being so exhausted! We had such a great time visintg family, taking a break from school and having some much needed relaxation. We also got some good tips and ideas for our next long trip this summer to Michigan.

On our way back we stopped in Ohio to visit our "grandparents" from college. Jacob and I call them our adoptive grandparents because we spent so much time with them while we were in college. They have taught us so much and it was wonderful for them to meet Alethea. (This was a special moment for us as we weren't sure if Alethea would ever be able to meet a couple who has had such a profound impact on our lives.)

And just in case your wondering; you can TOTALLY use cloth diapers while traveling. (they actually worked better then the disposables)

Enjoy the pictures!
